Join Deb to make this iconic styled Old English Frame ( or Medallion) Quilt. This style of quilt is the archetypal British style of quilt making, represented in the archives of The Quilters Guild Collection with many beautiful historic quilts.
In this class we will make an updated version, inspired by its appearance in the recent Spielberg Big Friendly Giant film as ‘Sophie’s Quilt’ grasped by the little girl as she is carried off by the BFG to Giant land! This style of quilt, whilst classically traditional can be bought right up to date with modern prints. It’s a fun make, with a king sized quilt growing quickly out row by row from the centre as each weeks class passes. You can choose to alter your final quilt size by making as many or as few of the outward rings as necessary, but using the whole of Deb’s pattern this makes a large king sized bed quilt.
This quilt includes hand sewing, machine sewing and rotary cutting and optional applique. You could also take this class with the New York Beauty Foundation Piecing class and use the New York Beauty block as your Medallion centre if you prefer not to hand sew the applique centre. This class is suitable as a second class after Simple Sampler and for those with some prior patchwork experience. This class runs over 6 sessions. You will need to choose fabric but full guidance is given in the pre read and in the first class so most expect to choose fabric after that first class.
