I work full time. Do you run classes at weekends and in the evenings?
We do! We run classes on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings depending on the class. We try and rotate our classes through every time slot so that no one need miss out! We also run adult classes most Saturdays so check our Classes page where you can filter by weekday too.
Do I have to bring my own sewing machine?
No, you can rent one of our Workroom sewing machines, we have Janome 525S machines for rent for £5 per session. We have a full set of feet for these machines too so if you have a special technique you need to sew you can rent our machines at a Sewing Therapy day and come and sew your project too.
Can I hire The Workroom for a group?

How accessible is The PlainStitch Workroom for someone with a disability?
We are located on the first floor of a Georgian building. There are 3 steps up to the front door ( with sturdy railings) and then a flight of 13 steps up to the first floor ( again with a sturdy hand rail).
I am a complete beginner. Which class should I take?
We love beginners! Come along and take our fun Get To Know Your Sewing Machine class to get going then we recommend classes such as our Infinity Scarves or Classic Patchwork Cushions as a good place to start and get your confidence up. If you’d like to learn how to make a quilt our definitive Simple Sampler Class is the first stop for all of our patchworkers.
Do you run classes for children and young people?
We do. We love teaching the next generation of sewers. For kids aged 7-11 ( school years 2-6) come along once a month to our Miss Stitch classes, then graduating up to Miss Stitch Seniors in year 6/7 for 11-15 year olds. See the Kids and Teens sections of the classes page for more details.
Can I come and sew with a friend?
Absolutely, we have lots of friendship groups who come along together. Either take a class together or book spaces together on our relaxing Sewing Therapy days and work on your own projects but catch up as we keep the tea and biscuits coming! Wendover has lots of lovely cafes and restaurants if you want to go on for a lovely lunch afterwards that we can recommend. Alternatively come along to our Retreat Day and spend a whole day of chat and sewing with lots of lovely friendly people.
I’m new to the area, I already sew, how can I make new sewing friends through PlainStitch?
Oh lucky you – you’ve picked just the right place for a new home! We have so many lovely friendly gatherings, from our yearly Show & Tell, twice yearly Retreat Days and monthly Sewing Therapy Days. Come along and we’ll introduce you to everyone – its very relaxed and friendly and we get lots of newbies so don’t feel shy!
I want to buy a new sewing machine, can you offer some advice?

What are your Sewing Therapy Days?
What are your Retreat Days?
Retreat Days happen twice a year in Feb and Oct. We sew all day from 10am- 7pm at a local hall and enjoy a delicious catered lunch. Attendees bring their own projects and often come with a friend, or come along to make friends! Its a very relaxed day.
Can I ‘put my name down’ for a future class?
We announce our termly classes around 6 weeks before the term starts and all classes are then open to booking. It’s first come first served on our class bookings page where you can see the number of spaces per class.
Do you teach boys/men to sew too?
Do you sell parts for my machine?
We sell feet and some parts for Janome branded machines.
Why aren’t you open all day?
We are all mums of school age kids and we try and juggle both jobs. The shop is open alongside the classroom, usually Weds – Sat, but our online shop is open all day everyday and we despatch orders everyday too so you can get your supplies when you need them!
